I have no idea. Ive had no contact, no e-mails, and no follow up on our planned meeting. At this point I consider it a write-off from my end, and wish them them the best of luck. All the better because, frankly, I’d rather slit my wrists than do a research project on the California state budget.

Yes I did in fact make one . It can be found at http://www.cmarian.jmcnewmedia.com/ under the folder labeled “Chris’s Crap Website” The site is, as its name may imply, a piece of crap. However the objective here was to simply demonstrate that I could piece one together. The header image is of Col. Tigh from the television show “Battlestar Galactica”, and it’s exactly what I look like right now.

Holy crap it worked

This is a sound file I created about a month ago to demonstrate my ability to use the Audacity sound editing software. As I had no artistic requirements for this piece, I chose to do something as banal as humanly possible, that is, I read the phonetic alphabet to a really dreary piece of classical piano. My original plan was to read the phone book, but I kept stumbling over names. In any case, enjoy!

This will be my last post for the evening, since I’m now tired, angry, and looking for a stiff drink. More to come tomorrow.

A crappy $60 video

Here is a video I made to demonstrate my ability to use movie editing software, namely Windows Movie Maker. The video itself is a composition of clips taken from a camera taped to the dashboard of my car for a police-camera style. The video is a depiction of my daily commute to school set to “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. Due to compositional constraints I was unable tp shorten the video beyond about 3:30, which, when combined with necessary file-type conversions, resulted in somewhat poor quality.
At this point I should note that in order to post this video, and thus fulfill my obligations to this assignment, it was necessary to pay $60 to WordPress via credit card over an unsecured network. Another $20 at least will be necessary to upload my mp3 sound file. Needless to say, at this moment I am quite furious with several people.

Here are a few different versions of the same picture, edited using photoshop for a project several weeks ago. The original picture was taken as part of a photography assignment for another class. The picture is of my desktop work area in a fairly conventional configuration (minus any spills or electrical fires), taken by hand using a very long exposure (also a large aperture and very high ISO) to compensate for the darkness and still allow for the desired lighting effect. One of these pictures is of relatively high quality for use in my InDesign project. The second picture is of significantly lower quality for use in web applications where leaner file sizes for faster loading is critical. The third image is a manipulation of the first, using the filtering device in Photoshop.

An existential question of there ever was one, but I’ll spare you my musings. My name is Christopher J. Marian, and I am an disgruntled alcholholic ex-pilot with a severe phobia of online interaction. Needless to say this makes doing a technology project like this somewhat…difficult. Its taken me to the final last and desperate week of the semester to even begin most of the content items here, especially the posts. I have never kept a running journal in my life, I never felt the need. So when faced with the REQUIRMENT, I had to ask myself “what the hell do I say?” the answer I came to of course was “only what I need to”.

So why a train wreck? As a theoretical compendium of work from a semester of technology class, I envision this blog like a series of train cars run off the rails and crashing, in a great fiery heap, upon the train station. In other words, an unmitigated disaster. The theme of the said disasterous content herein lies unto itself. And if you could not understand that last sentance, all the better, because neither did I.
Consider this, O Captian, My Captain, a neccessary and therepuetic confession. I have done all the things I should not, and left undone all the things I should. I make no apology, and expect no favors. I present to you now, the rotten fruit of my labors…
